ANDOVER AND DISTRICT OLDER PEOPLE’S FORUM

INDEPENDENT LIVING FAYRE : 2ND OCTOBER 2019

‘ THERE’S NO PLACE LIKE HOME ’ is something on which we would all agree but as you get older, living independently can be more of a challenge. Knowing how to get that extra little piece of help needed or that housing adaptation which will make all the difference can be problematic. Do we all know what help is available and from whom  ? Where do we go to ask? Not all of us are computer literate so ‘Google’ or ‘Facebook’ may not give us the answers we need.

PUT A DATE IN YOUR DIARY OR ON YOUR CALENDAR – 2ND OCTOBER 2019 BETWEEN 1PM AND 4PM and come along to the new Andover Leisure Centre where Andover and District Older People’s Forum are organising an ’INDEPENDENT LIVING FAYRE’.

IT’S FREE FOR THE OVER 50’S – even a cuppa !

We have linked up with local organisations to provide information and advice on who might help and products which may assist.

Find out about NHS and Hampshire County Council services to which you are entitled and which can assist you in staying   independent and in control.

Learn how to seek help from Hampshire’s ‘Connect to Support’ computer programme and watch a demonstration or get a hard back copy.

Learn more from our experts about stair lifts and other home lifts, mobility aids and other aids to daily living. Who wants to leave their home of 50 years just because the stairs are a problem or we cannot get in the bath.

Some people of course just might, and Andover does have specific supported housing provision so find out how to access it or how to apply for Disabled Facilities and Home Improvement Grants from our Borough Council colleagues.

Find out more from those with experience about how to continue to live safely at home for longer with dementia.

What about alternative transport and funding for older people locally at a time when cut backs and austerity still affect our bus services.

We have an informative inclusive session on how to reduce the risks of falls and live more safely. Who wants a fractured femur as you get older – let’s try and prevent this  ?

Free cakes ( to go with your cuppa)come  from Wiltshire Farm Foods who can help with providing meals to heat up if you no longer feel up to doing this preparation yourselves. Get one of their extensive catalogues on the day. Have a natter with friends – make new ones.

Leisure Centre staff will be happy to show you what the Andover Leisure Centre has to offer older people to keep as fit and mobile as possible and we hope to have a guest speaker on ‘Independent Living’.

WHAT MORE CAN YOU WANT  ???

COME AND JOIN US ON 2ND OCTOBER 2019 AT IPM – 4PM
